Premise of the Project:  Voices from Egypt 

The Goal: Bring the opinions, thoughts, and feelings of Egyptians concerning recent events and the future to the West.

The Premise: The voices of average Egyptians have been lost in the cacophony of rhetoric from foreign policy pundits throughout the West. This project aims to provide a visually appealing platform for ordinary citizens of Egypt to express their understanding and opinions of recent events as well as their thoughts on propelling their country forward in a new direction.

The Vehicle: Create a blog, VoicesFromEgypt.com, comprised of a series of multi-media entries (in English) exploring what Egyptians across various demographics think about recent, current events within Egypt and their outlook for the future. 

The Method: An American documentary photographer will travel throughout Egypt to meet with groups of people in social settings for discussions about current events and steps toward moving the country forward. 

Access to these groups would be through prior contacts the photographer has made. Cooperation with these contacts is already forthcoming in securing additional groups in other parts of the country who would be willing to participate in this project.

Questions might include:

1. Was the ouster of Morsi a coup?

2. Who are the supporters of the Tamarod campaign?

3. Who are Morsi's supporters?

4. How do you view the military's role in recent events? 

5. What place does the Brotherhood have in Egypt's future?

6. What does democracy in Egypt look like?

7. What role has the United States played in events to date?

8. What role would you like to see the United States play in Egypt's future?

9. What would you like to tell American citizens?

Discussions will be recorded and supplemented with video and still imagery from the discussions themselves and from the various locales where they were held.

Another scenario might be:

After all discussions have been held throughout the country, develop the blog by topic. I.e., one blog would feature discussions on question1: 'Was the ouster of Morsi a coup?"  Key statements would be edited from all of the various discussion groups to present a cross-section of local thought…  The next video-blog would be about, for example, 'What does democracy in Egypt look like?"  etc. for each question discussed.
